New Marketing

I just finished Seth Godin's new book, "Meatball Sundae." It's an interesting take on new marketing mediums for modern businesses. He does a good job demonstrating how and how not to use the new social networks, and other mediums to market your business.

The Social Networks are a source to which many businesses turn. MySpace, Linked In, Plaxo, Squidoo, etc. He mentions how many businesses are using these tools inappropriately. And to a certain degree, I agree. Seth points out a few case studies, which help drive the point home a little better. I came across one company recently that seems to be using the new media to the extremes...

Advertising Remnants

If you’re like me, you’ve probably never heard of advertising remnants. That’s right, just like carpet remnants. Ad space that doesn’t get used. It must be sold. Blank pages in national magazines are unheard of. What do they do with these remnants? They sell them for dirt cheap.

Jay Conrad Levinson, author or Guerilla Marketing, tells us that a full page black and white ad in Time Magazine runs in the ball park of $85,000. Yeh right… However, as the publishing date approaches the magazine sells these remnants to ad agencies for dirt cheap. You can get your full page ad in a regional distribution of this and many other national magazines for less than $3000.00. Care to save $82,000 on ad space?

Strengthen Client Relationships Through Education

The other day I was waiting to have my alternator replaced in my car. I'm no mechanic, but I know enough of the language to understand what I'm being told, sold, or otherwise. I wondered if my mechanic had any idea how lucky he was to deal with a client that understood what he was telling and selling. I was an informed client. But what about those less informed? How well could he communicate my needs if I had no concept of auto mechanics? How would he communicate his offering to someone who doesn't get it?

My mechanic was good. As is the case with most guys, I know enough about cars to be dangerous. I know the language... Let's face it, if I knew more, I'd have been in my garage changing out my own alternator. My mechanic immediately recognized that I was no pro, and catered his offering to meet my needs. He spoke in my language. No big words... no tech talk... nothing condescending... he was perfect.

Para-Diddle Design Expands to New England

In July 2007, Josh and family relocated from Mandeville, LA to Manchester, Connecticut. As a home based organization, this was much easier, and much more financially feasible than if we had a traditional brick and mortar presence. Our telephone number remains the same - 888.232.8250. We've become members of the local chamber, and have taken a seat in a local Business Network International Chapter. Things are moving right along. We will continue servicing our clients in the New Orleans and the Gulf South regions.
